TL;DR: Stay logged in makes signing in to ISL Light easier by keeping you logged in between app launches. Sign in once with your username and password, and ISL Light can recognize you the next time you open the app, without asking for your credentials again. Account owners and administrators control whether Stay logged in is enabled and how long it lasts. The feature is available in ISL Light on desktop and mobile for cloud license accounts.
What changes when you log in to ISL Light?
Download the latest version of ISL Light and log in with your username and password as usual.
Once you’ve authenticated, ISL Light can remember your login. The next time you start the app, it recognizes you and signs you in automatically. You don’t need to open the browser, go through the login screen, or enter your credentials again.

Is this feature enabled by default?
For cloud license accounts using regular ISL Online credentials, Stay logged in is enabled by default. There’s nothing individual users need to configure.
For accounts that sign in through SSO or an external identity provider, Stay logged in is disabled by default. An administrator needs to enable it before it applies to those users.
Important note: Stay logged in is controlled by the account owner or domain administrator. Depending on your organization’s needs, it can be configured for the whole account, a specific domain, or an individual user.
How long does ISL Light keep you logged in?
Staying logged in isn’t permanent. Two limits determine when you’ll need to authenticate again:
- Idle lifetime (default: 2 weeks): This is a rolling period that resets when you use ISL Light. If you return within that period, you stay logged in. If you don’t use ISL Light for longer than the configured idle lifetime, you’ll need to log in again.
- Maximum duration (default: 365 days): This is the maximum amount of time you can stay logged in from your initial authentication. Using ISL Light resets the idle lifetime, but it doesn’t extend the maximum duration.
Administrators can change both settings, so the limits in your organization may be different.
How does Stay logged in protect your login?
Stay logged in makes repeat logins easier without storing your password on the device. Instead, ISL Light securely remembers your login using a unique login credential that changes after each successful persistent login. Only a protected version of this credential is stored on the server.
Additional safeguards can revoke the persistent login and require you to authenticate again. This happens if an old login credential is reused, if the login moves to a different country, or after security-sensitive account changes such as a password reset, email change, account disable, or a change to 2FA.
Administrators can also revoke persistent login remotely when needed.
What happens when Stay logged in expires?
When your persistent login expires, ISL Light simply asks you to authenticate again.
Sign in with your username and password as usual. Your ISL Light data and settings aren’t affected. If Stay logged in is still enabled for your account, ISL Light can keep you logged in again after you authenticate.
How administrators can configure Stay logged in
Administrators can manage Stay logged in under Administration > Settings > Security.
The available settings let you:
- Turn Stay logged in on or off. It’s turned on by default.
- Allow Stay logged in for SSO and external users. It’s disabled by default. An administrator needs to enable it.
- Set the Stay logged in idle lifetime. The default is 2 weeks.
- Set the Stay logged in maximum duration. The default is 365 days.

If you enable Stay logged in for SSO or external users, keep in mind that ISL Light doesn’t re-check the identity provider every time the app starts. Disabling or deleting a user at the identity provider therefore doesn’t immediately end an active persistent login.
If you need to revoke access immediately, disable or delete the user directly in the ISL Online web portal.
Fewer login steps for regular ISL Light users
Stay logged in removes repeated authentication from the everyday ISL Light workflow while keeping control of persistent login with your administrators.
Once you’ve authenticated, you can close ISL Light and return later without signing in again, as long as your persistent login remains valid.

Coming next: Login with browser
In a later step, ISL Light will introduce Login with browser. Instead of entering your username and password directly in ISL Light, you’ll authenticate through your browser. After that initial login, Stay logged in will work the same way: ISL Light can sign you in automatically on future launches without opening the browser or asking you to authenticate again.
Two command-line options will also provide additional control over the login behavior: --skip-persistent-login will disable persistent login for that launch, while --show-native-app-login will show the username and password login screen instead of Login with browser. Persistent login will also be skipped when ISL Light is started with --username, --password, or --web-login.
