When using remote desktop software, ensuring security and privacy is crucial. ISL Online offers a useful feature called Black Screen (Curtain Mode), which allows you to hide remote computer’s screen during sessions. This feature is particularly important for maintaining privacy when entering sensitive information or working with confidential files remotely.
What is Black Screen (Curtain Mode)?
The Black Screen feature allows you to hide all activity on the remote machine, ensuring that individuals physically near the device cannot observe what you are doing. It’s especially useful in remote work environments, public spaces, or when dealing with sensitive information.
Why is the Black Screen Feature Important?
The Black Screen feature provides several key advantages:
- Maintains Privacy: It ensures your activity remains hidden when connecting to a remote device, particularly in shared workspaces or public locations.
- Prevents Data Leaks: By blocking unauthorized viewing, the feature reduces the risk of exposing sensitive information.
- Enhances Security: Especially useful in environments where physical security cannot be guaranteed, the Black Screen adds an extra layer of protection, minimizing potential data exposure.
Practical Applications of the Black Screen Feature
- Remote Maintenance: Devices in public places, such as digital displays in shopping centers, often need maintenance. Activating Black Screen during these tasks hides the process from public view, enhancing both security and professionalism.
- Remote Work: If you’re connecting remotely to a work PC in a shared or open office environment, Black Screen ensures that your activities remain private, preventing anyone nearby from seeing your screen.
- High-Security Environments: Institutions handling highly sensitive data, such as those in finance or healthcare, benefit from this feature. It helps maintain confidentiality by blacking out the screen during remote access sessions.
How to Use the Black Screen Feature
Using the Black Screen feature in ISL Light is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- During a Session:
While in an active ISL Light session, click on the “Desktop Sharing” button and select “Black Screen (Curtain Mode).” This action will black out the remote computer’s screen, while you still retain full control over the device.

- Before Connecting:
You can also enable the Black Screen feature before connecting to a remote computer. When selecting the computer, check “Black Screen” under “Show Options.” This ensures the screen is blacked out from the start of the session.

- For ISL AlwaysOn Remote Computers:
To enable Black Screen for computers that are remotely accessible through ISL AlwaysOn, navigate to Settings > Desktop Sharing and enable the option for “Black Screen when session starts.” This setting ensures the feature is automatically applied whenever a session begins.
- Client Control Over Black Screen:
For transparency and to avoid any unintended misuse of the feature, the client on the remote side can disable the Black Screen at any time by pressing the “Esc” button. After a short delay, the screen will return to normal, giving the remote user the ability to see their screen.
